PORTOMÍDIA - PORTO DIGITAL‘s Center for Entrepreneurship and Creative Economics Technologies

PORTOMÍDIA is an economic development strategy for Pernambuco, northeastern Brazil, which boosts the modern creative economics service industry, always in great need of information technology, and improves the technology complex as a whole. It is one of the ways found to implement the new cluster and ensure high technological standards and economic sustainability. It operates in an integrated manner with the already existing information technology chain and comprises four activity centers: (i) - education; (ii) - entrepreneurship; (iii) - experimentation; and (iv) - exhibit/show room.

Boo-box − The Largest Online Advertising Technology Company in Latin America

Boo-box is the 45th most innovative company according to the Fast Company magazine, ranking second in Brazil and fourth in the advertising industry. An ad network that provides innovative solutions in targeting technology and different ad formats for the web. The company has become a giant for its advertising on social media in Brazil. They have recently set up a partnership with Argentinean social analyses company Popego in an effort to offer one-of-a-kind advertising throughout the continent. The boo-box network features over 40,000 affiliated publishers who post daily contents on their blogs, websites and social media profiles. The topics are wide-ranging and meant for all tastes and audiences: vehicles, beauty, cooking, health, tourism, and much more. There are 310,000 websites and blogs total, besides 23,000 Twitter profiles. All that content draws in a lot of audience: over 80 million people every month, equivalent to 100% of Brazilian internet users. People interested in keeping up to speed with everything that goes on the internet and the world. Boo-box‘s technology provides a bridge between advertisers, who wish to reach that audience, and publishers, who make space available on their websites and blogs. IAB or special formats, added to cutting-edge audience segmentation technology, allow campaigns to be much more accurate and enjoy guaranteed returns on investment.

Fundação Lemann: The use of the Khan Academy video-based methodology in São Paulo city schools

Fundação Lemann is a nonprofit organization created in 2002 to improve the quality of public education in Brazil. In line with that goal and in collaboration with Instituto Natura and Instituto Península, the foundation has been translating Khan Academy videos on arithmetic, biology, chemistry and physics so they can be used as a learning tool in public schools. This is a pilot project in 5th grade classes in São Paulo city schools and which is meant to help improve the students‘ performance in arithmetic and try the Khan Academy methodology in the classroom, aided by teachers. The project is expected to be expanded to other schools.
